| 10/11/2008 | Shayne Graham, K (Cin) | Graham is hampered by a sore groin. Analysis: Graham didn't practice on Thursday or Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at the New York Jets. The Bengals signed Dave Rayner on Saturday. |
| 10/11/2008 | Dave Rayner, K (Det) | The Bengals signed Rayner on Saturday, giving them another kicker with Shayne Graham hampered by a sore groin. Analysis: Rayner has played in 41 games with Indianapolis, Green Bay, Kansas City and San Diego, connecting on 41 of 58 field-goal attempts. He was released by Detroit on Aug. 26. |
| 10/11/2008 | Kellen Winslow, TE (Cle) | Winslow remains hospitalized with an undisclosed illness, making it more likely he won't play in Monday night's game against the Giants. Analysis: Winslow missed a fourth straight practice Saturday morning. He was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday for tests and evaluation after feeling ill for several days. Team spokeswoman Amy Palcic says it's unclear whether the Pro Bowler will spend Saturday night in the hospital. She says there's still a 50-50 chance Winslow will play Monday against the defending Super Bowl champions. |
| 10/11/2008 | Terence Newman, CB (Dal) | Newman will be out at least another month after surgery for a sports hernia. Analysis: Newman missed the preseason and the season opener because of a groin injury. He then played in three games before getting hurt again in practice last week. He had surgery Friday in North Carolina and the earliest he is likely to return is mid-November. Newman, the 2003 first-round pick going into his sixth NFL season, earned his first Pro Bowl appearance last season after missing the first two games of the regular season with an injured right foot. |
| 10/10/2008 | Adrian Wilson, S (Ari) | Wilson has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for a hit on Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards last Sunday. Analysis: Wilson hit Edwards on the third play of last week's game. The hit was not helmet-to-helmet, but Edwards suffered a concussion and did not return to the game. No penalty was called on the play. Wilson said Friday that league officials also put him on notice he may face heavier fines or a suspension for future incidents. |
| 10/10/2008 | Mike Walker, WR (Jac) | The Jaguars will be without Walker for Sunday's game at Denver. Analysis: Walker, who has 12 catches for 161 yards, injured his knee against Pittsburgh last Sunday and was listed as out. "We're going to get him rested up and have him coming out of the bye week," coach Jack Del Rio said Friday. "He has been a big help both receiving and on special teams." |
| 10/10/2008 | Kellen Winslow, TE (Cle) | Winslow will spend a second night in the hospital with an undisclosed illness that could keep him out of Monday night's game against the New York Giants. Analysis: Coach Romeo Crennel said Friday that Winslow was kept overnight at the Cleveland Clinic. Winslow had been feeling ill for several days and the team sent him to the doctor Thursday for further tests and evaluation. Crennel had expected the 25-year-old player to be discharged on Friday, but team spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said Winslow will remain hospitalized. Citing patient privacy laws, Crennel did not provide specifics on Winslow's illness. |
| 10/10/2008 | Erin Henderson, LB (Min) | Henderson returned to practice Friday for the first time since suffering a concussion on Monday night against New Orleans. Analysis: Henderson's practice was limited and he's questionable for Minnesota's game Sunday against Detroit. The Vikings are thin at linebacker after losing E.J. Henderson for the season a week ago, and could use his little brother on special teams. |
| 10/10/2008 | Jason Taylor, DE (Was) | Taylor practiced for the second straight day Friday and appears set to play in Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Analysis: Taylor has missed two games since undergoing surgery on his left calf Sept. 22. He returned to practice Thursday wearing a titanium pad to protect the stitches in his leg. "I don't know if he's going to start, but he's going to participate,'' coach Jim Zorn said. |
| 10/10/2008 | Matt Hasselbeck, QB (Sea) | Hasselbeck has not been cleared to play against Green Bay, meaning the Seahawks will likely start Charlie Frye against the Packers. Analysis: Coach Mike Holmgren made the announcement after practice on Friday. Hasselbeck was again a spectator watching practice wearing a neon green baseball hat, while Frye took the majority of the snaps. Hasselbeck bruised his right knee last Sunday against the New York Giants. Holmgren said earlier this week that Hasselbeck "has to play'' for the 1-3 Seahawks. He says there still is a chance Hasselbeck will be cleared for Sunday's game. |
| 10/10/2008 | Roddy White, WR (Atl) | The Falcons listed White as questionable for Sunday's game against Chicago after the receiver missed a second straight practice Friday. Analysis: White, whose 454 yards receiving rank third in the league, was knocked out of Wednesday's practice after hitting his head in a collision with safety Lawyer Milloy. White said, "I'm OK. It's no big deal," after he missed Thursday's practice, but he was held out again Friday. White He established himself as the team's top receiver in 2007 when he set career highs with 83 receptions for 1,202 yards and six touchdowns. |
| 10/10/2008 | Kevin Curtis, WR (Phi) | Curtis is expected to see his first action this season Sunday against the 49ers after having surgery for a sports hernia. Analysis: Curtis had career highs of 77 catches for 1,110 yards and six touchdowns last season, and should once again provide the Eagles with a big play threat when he returns. |
| 10/10/2008 | Brian Westbrook, RB (Phi) | Westbrook will miss his second game in three weeks when the Philadelphia Eagles visit San Francisco on Sunday. Analysis: Westbrook broke two ribs in the Eagles' 23-17 loss to Washington last Sunday, though he kept playing and finished the game. He sat out a 24-20 loss at Chicago on Sept. 28 because of an ankle injury. Westbrook leads the Eagles with 194 yards rushing and has six touchdowns, two receiving. He should return on Oct. 26 after a bye week. |
| 10/10/2008 | Dane Looker, WR (StL) | Looker said additional tests on his brain after a spot was found have not yet revealed answers. Analysis: Looker said he had an angiogram Thursday. The additional test was taken to try and rule out an aneurysm after a CAT scan that cleared him from a concussion revealed a brain abnormality. "We don't know for sure right now what it is,'' Looker said. "We're going to take some tests and see what it is. I'll meet with the doctor on Tuesday, and he'll talk to some more doctors. I'm good. I'm not playing this week, but I'm hopeful about the future.'' |
| 10/10/2008 | Derek Stanley, WR (StL) | The Rams promoted Stanley from the practice squad Friday, while Dane Looker said additional tests on his brain after a spot was found have not yet revealed answers. Analysis: St. Louis plays at Washington after a bye week that saw a coaching change from Scott Linehan to Jim Haslett. Haslett said the Rams moved up Stanley when it became clear Looker would be inactive for the game. The 5-foot-11, 179-pound Stanley, who signed a contract Friday, played in the final three games as a rookie in 2007 and returned kickoffs. He also saw some time as a receiver but did not have any receptions. He did have one rush for 5 yards. |
| 10/10/2008 | Ryan Kalil, C (Car) | Kalil missed his third straight workout Friday and is listed as doubtful to play against the Buccaneers Sunday. Analysis: Kalil injured his right ankle against the Chiefs last Sunday. Geoff Hangartner is expected to start in his place. |
| 10/10/2008 | Jeff Otah, T (Car) | Otah practiced for a second straight day Friday. Analysis: Otah is listed as questionable, but participated fully in Friday's practice. Otah sat out the Panthers' Week 4 win over the Falcons with a sprained right ankle. |
| 10/10/2008 | Fabian Washington, CB (Bal) | Washington will miss Sunday's game against Indianapolis with a dislocated right shoulder. Analysis: Washington was filling in for starter Samari Rolle, who is out at least a month following neck surgery last week. |
| 10/10/2008 | Jordan Gross, T (Car) | Gross practiced for a second straight day Friday. Analysis: Gross is listed as questionable, but participated fully in Friday's practice. Gross missed last Sunday's win over Kansas City after being knocked unconscious a week earlier against Atlanta when he was kneed in the head. |
| 10/10/2008 | Ronnie Brown, RB (Mia) | Brown and two Miami Dolphins teammates have been fined $10,000 each by the NFL for excessive celebrating. Analysis: After Brown scored a touchdown Sunday against San Diego, he performed a dance shuffle in the end zone with offensive linemen Vernon Carey and Ikechuku Ndukwe. The league said Friday that choreographed celebrations by two or more players aren't permitted. |
