10/10/2008 Tim Connolly, C, Buf Connolly missed the Sabres' season-opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday because of a back injury, opening this season where the injury-plagued center ended the last.

Analysis: The play-making forward registered an assist in one preseason game, but had been bothered by a sore back for most of the past week. He missed 34 games last season, including the final 12, after having surgery to remove bone chips from his hip. And Connolly has appeared in only 50 games over the past two seasons as a result of injuries.
10/10/2008 Wade Belak, RW, Fla Belak was placed on the injured reserve on Oct. 1 due to an unspecified knee injury.

Analysis: Belak signed a two-year contract with Florida in May after he was acquired from Toronto at the trade deadline. He had a goal in 47 games with both clubs last season.
10/10/2008 Scott Parker, RW, Col Parker was placed on the injured reserve with a concussion on Thursday.

Analysis: Parke was limited to just 25 games - and no points - last season as he dealt with a sprained ankle.
10/10/2008 Mathieu Roy, D, Edm Roy was placed on the injured reserve Thursday with an undisclosed injury.

Analysis: Roy missed time with head, shoulder and sternum injuries last season, when the 25-year-old defenseman contributed an assist in 13 games with the Oilers.
10/10/2008 John Scott, D, Min Scott was placed on the injured reserve on Thursday with a sprained ankle.

Analysis: Scott spent last season with Houston of the AHL, and has yet to make his NHL debut.
10/10/2008 D.J. King, LW, StL King was placed on the injured reserve Wednesday with a wrist injury.

Analysis: King had three goals and three assists in 61 games for the Blues last season.
10/10/2008 Ryan Craig, C, TB Craig was placed on the injured reserve with a groin injury on Thursday.

Analysis: Craig had a goal and an assist in seven appearances for the Lightning last season, when missed the first 13 games with a herniated disc and then missed 59 contests due to a left knee injury.
10/10/2008 Jean-Francois Jacques, LW, Edm Jacques was placed on the injured reserve Thursday with a back injury.

Analysis: Jacques has made 53 appearances over three seasons for the Oilers, but has never contributed a point.
10/10/2008 Francis Bouillon, D, Mon Bouillon was placed on the injured reserve with an unspecified leg injury.

Analysis: Bouillon had three goals and 11 assists, but missed 12 games last season with foot and shoulder injuries.
10/10/2008 Josh Beaulieu, RW, Phi Beaulieu was placed on the injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.

Analysis: Beaulieu - a fifth-round selection by the Flyers in 2005 - spent last season with Philadelphia of the AHL. He has yet to make his NHL debut.
10/10/2008 Henrik Sedin, C, Van Sedin contributed a goal and an assist to lead Vancouver to a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Analysis: Sedin had 15 goals and 61 assists for 76 points last season, and he collected 22 multi-point performances along the way. The most recent of those efforts occurred March 30, when he had two assists in a win over Calgary.
10/10/2008 Daniel Sedin, LW, Van Sedin contributed three assists to lead Vancouver to a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Analysis: Sedin had 29 goals and 45 assists for 74 points last season, compiling 20 multi-point performances. His last three-point effort occurred when he had three assists in a home win over Nashville on March 6.
10/10/2008 Mattias Ohlund, D, Van Ohlund scored a goal and added an assist to lead Vancouver to a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Analysis: Ohlund, entering his 11th season with the Canucks, looks to bounce back after an injury-plagued 2007-08. He had nine goals and 15 assists for 24 points in 53 games as he missed time with a concussion and knee surgery.
10/10/2008 Ryan Kesler, C, Van Kesler contributed two assists to lead Vancouver to a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Analysis: Kesler is coming off of a career year in which he posted single-season highs in goals (21) and points (37). The Canucks went 5-1-0 in games where Kesler had two or more points, the most recent such effort coming in a win at Los Angeles on March 10.
10/10/2008 Alex Burrows, LW, Van Burrows overcame an emotional pre-game ceremony, then scored two goals to lead Vancouver to a 6-0 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Analysis: The Canucks honored defenseman Luc Bourdon, who died in a motorcycle accident in May, with a video tribute prior to the game. "I almost cried a little bit on the ice and had to stop watching it," said Burrows, who was Bourdon's closest friend on the team. Burrows had 12 goals and 19 assists in 82 games for the Canucks last season.
10/10/2008 Rob Blake, D, SJ Blake contributed two assists in the Sharks' 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Analysis: The 18-year veteran defenseman is entering his first season with the Sharks after spending 2007-08 with Los Angeles. Blake had nine goals and 22 assists in 71 games for the Kings.
10/10/2008 Milan Michalek, LW, SJ Michalek contributed two assists in the Sharks' 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Analysis: Michalek, who led the Sharks to a 10-1-0 record in games in which he had at least two points, had 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points in 79 games last season.
10/10/2008 Jonathan Cheechoo, RW, SJ Cheechoo scored twice in the Sharks' 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Analysis: Cheechoo was limited to 23 goals and 14 assists in 69 games last season as he was limited by injuries to his groin and neck.
10/10/2008 Devin Setoguchi, RW, SJ Setoguchi had a goal and an assist in the Sharks' 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Analysis: Setoguchi was successful with the Sharks last season, totaling 11 goals and six assists in 44 games after he was called up from Worcester of the AHL on Feb. 28.
10/10/2008 Marc Savard, C, Bos Savard had a goal and an assist, lifting the Bruins to a 5-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night in the season opener for both teams.

Analysis: Savard missed seven games with a back injury last season, when he had 15 goals and 63 assists for 78 points.
